I found this blog last night and noticed that she does a weekly meal plan before going to the grocery store and it inspired me to try it! I really like the idea of having a game plan before going because I think it will save me money. I have a tendency to just “shop” around at Publix and end up with stuff we don’t eat! The other big reason is because I have been know to go to Publix 4 times in one week and that’s just crazy! Especially since I never seem to get out of there without spending at least 50 bucks and frankly I just can’t afford to be doing that. This week I tried to find recipes to use up alot of the stuff I already have in my pantry and also to select food based on the weekly ad so here goes:
Monday: Crockpot Brown Sugar Chicken (chicken breasts are on sale) with some Brown Rice.
Tuesday: Tuna Casserole
- 1 pkg. egg noodles (I’m going to use fussuli noodles because I already have them)
- 1 tsp celery salt
- 1 tsp garlic salt
- 2-6 oz cans tuna (drained)
- 2-10.5 oz cans Cream of Mushroom Soup
- 1 bag shredded cheddar cheese
- 10-12 ritz crackers
- Boil noodles as directed on package. Drain noodles and add rest of ingredients except 1/2 bag of the cheese
- Spread into a 13×9 baking pan, spreading cheese and crumbled crackers on top.
- Bake in oven at 350 degrees until melted.
Wednesday: Leftovers
Thursday: Honey Glazed Chicken Stir Fry with Jasmine Rice
Friday: Order out!
Saturday: Steamed Shrimp and Orzo Pasta with a Salad (No recipe, I will probably just throw some lemon juice and olive oil in the orzo with the shrimp.
Sunday: Leftovers again!
I went to the grocery store yesterday and got everything I need so I am going to try REALLY hard not to return to Publix until next week! I will let you know how I do.

You just told me you are going to Publix this afternoon!!!
i love that your plan includes two days of leftovers and one day of eating out….you are such a sneaky smartypants. !!
I know I realized that I forgot milk but that’s it I swear!
i started doing this like 6 months ago and it really helped me…
Kathleen,
I am once again impressed by you. I am scared of menu planning…i don’t know why though. I too go to the Kroger way too much. I even try to keep a list on the fridge so I can stay away from there but I ALWAYS forget something! Maybe in the next few weeks I will get brave and plan a menu. I did try to use things in my kitchen that I just had available to make something last week. So, I made a chicken artichoke pizza but it was not good…well, it was okay. We ate it. Anyway, hope you stick to your plan this week!
