It was a thankful weekend!

We had a great thanksgiving weekend this year. Thursday was spent at my Mom’s house and Friday we had a get together with my husband’s side of the family. It is so funny how much the Holiday’s change when you get older and begin to add all kinds of new family members into the mix!

Anyway here are a couple of photos from our weekend of giving thanks:

Thankful List

I knew I wanted to write a post about what I am grateful for so last week I started a list and each day I wrote down something that I was really grateful for on that day. It may not have been all that deep but it was whatever happened to make me smile that day!

So here goes :

Thursday – Mr. Clean’s Magic Eraser. My Aunt Mary suggested I give them a shot a while back and I LOVE them. On Thursday I was DEEP cleaning the kitchen and I am continually amazed at how great those things are at cleaning ANY surface.

Friday – Publix Greenwise Grocery Bags. I did my grocery shopping on Friday and I am so grateful for these things. I am usually able to fit all of my groceries in 3 – 4 of them instead of having to deal with 20 plastic bags of groceries. I have to haul groceries and a toddler up the stairs so these things are a REAL lifesaver!

Saturday – Gas prices – need I say more :)

Sunday – Goldfish Crackers. I seriously need to write a letter to the Pepperidge Farm people pledging my eternal gratitude to them for inventing these magical crackers! Jonas will probably still be eating these things when he is 40. He loves them and they have gotten me through countless shopping trips and checkout lines. I NEVER leave home without them. Sunday was no exception I had to pick up a couple things for Friday’s dinner and it was close to nap time so he was CRANKY but my trusty container of goldfish did not let me down.

Monday – My sister-in-law Carla! As most of you know I am doing my hospital internship and I have little control over the days I have to work and my schedule got switched around and Carla was gracious enough to take him for me at the last minute! THANKS again Carla! I seriously don’t know how I would have made it through school without the help of all my friends and family.

Tuesday – The ability to relax without feeling guilty. I know I have talked about this before but I have been in school now for like ever and every night there was studying to be done. I didn’t actually study EVERY night but when I didn’t I always had a twinge of guilt about it. I am done studying with the exception of doing NCLEX questions here and there to be prepared for my boards in January, so I can actually relax and not feel bad about it, IT IS A GREAT FEELING!

Wednesday – The gift of baking. It truly is something I treasure doing. I did most of my baking on Wednesday. This is also something I have talked about before but again I have to say there is just something about baking that relaxes me and brings a smile to my face. Baking is sort of like nursing in that everything is precise and systematic and the more you work at it the better at it you become. The first batches of cookies I baked as a kid were sad at best but now I would say I make a pretty decent cookie. And my first couple IV insertions have completely bombed but hopefully I will become decent at those too :)

Thursday – FAMILY!! I love getting together with family. We may be dysfunctional at times but we all love each other and want the best for each other! I know alot of people that dread the holiday’s because it means you have to spend time with family but I feel so blessed to have a family that makes feel excited for the holidays!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!!

Planning out the week

I am not doing a meal plan this week because it is going to be a VERY CRAZY week so instead I am writing myself a little daily to do list to keep me on track.

Monday – Hospital 7a – 7p, write paper for class.

Tuesday – Mom’s group 10a, then class 1:30p, then wash floors & cook something, then do 100 NCLEX practice questions.

Wednesday – Make pumpkin cheescake and pumpkin ice cream. Do laundry, clean kitchen, and vacuum, then do 100 NCLEX practice questions

Thursday – THANKSGIVING at mom’s (bring cheesecake, stuff to make casserole, cheese and crackers, camera and possibly a game)

Friday – Holiday shopping in the am. Then pick up ham for 2nd thanksgiving dinner at our house with the nugent side of the family. Make pumpkin bars and corn casserole. Prepare appetizers and do last minute clean up.

Saturday – Figure out a way to go on vacation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then do 100 NCLEX practice questions :)

Sunday – Back to the hospital 7a – 7p!

I am probably forgetting something but that’s just too bad!!! Oh and do some blogging here and there :)

Pumpkin Carving

I know I am a little late but I hadn’t had the urge for some reason until today to get cracking on a pumpkin! After church this morning I had a strong desire for pumpkin bread so I got down to business. I went with this recipe for the pumpkin bread and it was delicious! Here’s a little collage, cause I figured you were missing my collages, of my pumpkin carving day!

Happy Birthday Den!

I am writing this post for 2 reasons.

1. Because I love my brother Dennis and I want to wish him a very happy birthday today!

and

2. Because I will be a little late on getting your gift to you so I was hoping that dedicating an entire post to you will score me enough points that you won’t care :)

So on this day (we think…long story) 29 years ago you came into the world and I am so glad you did!!!!

Weekly Poll

In the spirit of the Thanksgiving holiday and because next week is SO crazy that I probably won’t get to it, I decided to have a little poll about Thanksgiving food!

Blog Award

kreative

I was given my first blog award by my friend and fellow blogger Amy! It is with great pleasure and honor that I accept this award and I want to thank all the wonderful people that made this possible. Just kidding! HAHA :)

I am supposed to:

List six things about yourself.

1. I can’t wait to graduate from nursing school next month but I am also scared to death about actually being responsible for the lives of others!

2. I got to assist with delivering twins yesterday!

3. I am not good at thinking of stuff to say for these things!

4. I am so excited to make my annual (well this will be my 2nd year) pumpkin cheesecake for thanksgiving!

5. I love grocery shopping – which is partly why I make meal plans to keep me away :)

6. I just discovered that you can watch full episodes of my so called life on abc.com and I got really excited about it!

And, pass this award on to others.

I am passing this award on to tera and charlene.

Weekly Meal Plan

I decided to do a week of old favorites cause well this past week was a bit crazy. I am still adjusting to the whole 12 hour shift thing and I thought that it would be best to stick with recipes I don’t have to think about!

Monday – Asian grilled salmon (in a grill pan cause we don’t have a grill) with spinach salad

Tuesday – Parmesan crusted pork chops with roasted red potatoes and steamed veggies

Wednesday – Leftovers (Hospital day)

Thursday – Leftovers (Hospital day)

Friday- Costco pizza – we didn’t end up getting it last week.

Saturday- Baked Ziti

Sunday – Nada!

Another milestone

It’s video time again! For the longest time Jonas has had no interest in slides. We couldn’t get him to climb up to go on them or push himself down. In fact he has very little interest in the playground other than the mulch or dirt! Some of this is his Autism and some of it is being a boy! Anyway he has been getting better and better at taking an interest in playing the “right” way. I think I have mentioned this before and most of you probably know this already but play is really important for kids it’s how they learn so getting Jonas to play appropriately is about 80% of what he does in therapy. So I wanted to share this video I took today of Jonas going up and down a slide all by himself and this is not just any slide it was a GIANT inflatable slide at an indoor playground we frequent called A Latte Fun!
